Our Company
Salt Grass Mills is a small mill work operation in South Georgia.
We specialize in building products exclusively from ancient sinker cypress harvested from local rivers in southeast Georgia. The reason for exclusivity to this type of wood is quite simple, once you have seen the amazing colors and variations in the grain.
The characteristics of old growth cypress were highly sought after because of these important factors:
Water resistant
Rot & insect resistant
Long lasting and lightweight wood used in interior & exterior furniture; contains natural oil called cypressene which is highly repellent to bugs.
Very stable
Cypress wood is stable which means it is not subject to cracking, warping, or splitting.
Ancient sinker cypress is considered a soft wood, but with the nest qualities of hardwoods: strong, easy to work with, and beautiful growth rings.
